犬の十戒

明日から近くのおうちの黒ラブ（黒いラブラドール・レトリバー）の散歩をするので、散歩のマナーなどネットで読んでいると「犬の十戒」なる文章を発見。最初は犬と接する上での基本的なルールの事かしらと思っていたら、そうではなかった。以下、意訳。

Dog's Ten Commandments
犬の十戒

1 My life is likely to last ten to fifteen years.
Any separation from you will painful for me.
Remember that before you buy me.

僕の命は、大体10年から15年くらい。
だから少しでもあなたから離れているのは辛い。
僕を買う前に、その事を考えて。
　
2 Give me time to understand what you want of me.

あなたが僕に何を望んでいるか理解するまでに、時間を頂戴。

3 Place your trust in me-it's crucial to my Well-being.

僕を信頼して。それは僕にとって、すごく重要な事。

4 Don't be angry at me for long and don't lock me up as punishment.
You have your work, your entertainment and your friends.
I have only you.

長いこと僕を怒ったり、罰として閉じ込めたりしないで。
あなたには仕事も趣味もあるし、友達だっている。でも、僕にはあなたしかいない。

5 Talk to me sometimes.
Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice
when it's speaking to me.

時々僕に話しかけて。
あなたの言葉は解らなくても、あなたの声で解るのです。

6 Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it.

あなたがどれほど僕の面倒を見てくれているか、僕は絶対に忘れない。

7 Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily
crush the bones of your hand but that I choose not to bite you.

僕を叩く前に思い出して。僕にはあなたの手の骨を簡単に噛み砕ける歯があるけど、
　僕はあなたを噛まない事にしている。

8 Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy,
ask yourself if something might be bothering me.
Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, or I've been out in the
sun too long or my heart is getting old and weak.

言うことをきかない、頑固、怠け者と僕を叱る前に、何かが僕を悩ませていないか
考えて。ひょっとしてちゃんとご飯を食べてないのかもとか、太陽の下に長い時間
ほっとかれたのかもとか、年をとって心臓が弱くなったのかも、とかさ。

9 Take care of me when I get old. you, too, will grow old.

僕が年をとってもちゃんと面倒をみて。あなたも年をとるんだしね。

10 Go with me on difficult journeys.
Never say, I can't bear to watch it or Let it happen in my absence.
Everything is easier for me if you are there.
Remember, I love you.

僕が天国へと旅立つ時、一緒に居て。
見てるのが辛いとか、自分の居ない所で逝かせてやってなんて絶対に言わない事。
あなたが傍に居てくれたら、僕にはどんな事でも容易くなる訳で。
僕があなたを愛してる事を、忘れないで。

犬を飼う訳でもなく、散歩もまだ始めてないのにちょっとおセンチになってしまった。さすがずっと人間の傍にいるだけある。映画にもなったしな。でもこんなの読んだところで、フクちゃんにナメられるのには変わりはないわけだが。
